Bibb Way
A bespoke cycle shelter with a living green roof, designed to support wildlife and enhance London’s urban environment.
The cost consultant approached Bellsure with an aesthetically striking bespoke cycle shelter design that, while visually impressive, carried a significant manufacturing cost. Working closely with the client, Bellsure’s design team developed an alternative solution that replicated the appearance of the original concept at a substantially reduced cost, without compromising on the number of cycle spaces or the required security specification. 3D drawings were produced to give the client full confidence in the revised design before proceeding.
A further challenge was the tight installation window on site. To meet this constraint, the shelters were manufactured off-site and delivered in sections and then craned into position by HIAB – minimising disruption and ensuring the programme was met.
Project background
The former British Telecom Local Communications Services site at Bibb Way, Ipswich was redeveloped into a 150-home residential scheme, combining the conversion of a vacant office building into apartments with new-build houses on the former data centre and car park areas.
Delivered by Pentaco Construction for Ipswich Borough Council, the project regenerated a disused site to provide affordable housing, including demolition, access, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure works.
The result
An environmentally friendly timber cycle shelter was designed and installed by the Bellsure team, incorporating a green roof to support the client’s sustainability goals and help reduce the overall carbon footprint. The secure structure provides safe cycle storage for residents, encouraging sustainable transport and contributing to lower vehicle emissions on site.
