Frequently Asked Questions

Single-tier racks are the simplest to use and suit sites with limited ceiling height or lighter traffic. Two-tier systems can roughly double capacity in the same footprint, and so they tend to suit high-density residential and commercial schemes. Where floor area is the constraint rather than height, semi-vertical racks like the Verti45 hold bikes at an angle to shrink the footprint further. Give us your capacity target and the dimensions, and we’ll recommend the right mix.

We recommend a minimum clear height of 2.6m from floor level for optimal usability, but the absolute minimum workable height is 2.4m. Any lower than this may mean bicycles clash with the ceiling above, reducing accessibility.

For two-tier cycle parking, we suggest an aisle width of 1.75m. A minimum of 1.5m can be workable, but will depend on local parking and access standards. To achieve London Cycle Design Standard compliance 2.5m to 3.0m is recommended for single sided racks, and 3.3m to 3.6m for each aisle, to allow for parking and manoeuvring space.

Accessible spaces are simply larger spaces that allow for the use of a wide variety of non-standard cycles, such as Tricycles, Tandem bikes, Cargo bikes and other types of oversized cycles. These spaces are provided by positioning the CitiHoops further from adjacent walls or other racks to allow for longer and wider cycles. Accessible spaces usually include a wider aisle in front of them to allow easier access for larger bikes. The spacing requirements can differ according to local regulations.

Yes, absolutely – our CitiHoops and DoubleDek racks can be used to provide a LCDS compliant store. The LCDS looks at the store as a whole, requiring sufficient aisle widths, headroom and handlebar clearances to achieve compliance.

Yes, we can – a list of standard colours is available on request. We can also offer additional colours and finishes at an additional cost. Note that we can’t powder coat some of the moving parts in two-tier racks as the finish is not hard enough and can wear off after prolonged use.

The best methos is dependent store arrangement, rack type and floor build up. We have CitiHoops that can be cast directly into a concrete slab, and others that can be bolted down. For bolted down racks (or those bolted onto a wall) the fixing method will be tailored to suit the material they are being fixed to. For the majority of racks this will be Through-bolts, but for surfaces where this isn’t suitable, we will often resin-fix fasteners.

Yes. It’s worth planning your charging facilities early in the design process, as it affects power routing and where the stands should sit within the wider scheme – we can help build that into the layout at design stage.

Yes, absolutely. But please note they require a qualified plumber to connect the hose to the water main.
