The challenge

Bellsure were asked to deliver 112nr Secure Lockable Units, providing space for 348nr cycles, meeting the architect’s specification, and powder-coated to match the other elements on each unit.

Project background

The cycle-parking work sits within the broader Eddington scheme at North West Cambridge, a major development by University of Cambridge and partners. Designed as a sustainable, mixed-use neighbourhood with housing, research space, shopping, and open green areas, it emphasises walking, cycling and public transport over car use. With goals such as keeping single-occupancy car trips below ~40% and maximising cycle use, the development’s strategy makes high-quality cycle parking not just a convenience but a key element in enabling its mobility vision.

SOLUTION

The Bellsure solution

Bellsure were commissioned to supply and install 112nr Lokbox Horizontal products, powder-coated in RAL 7008 to match the other design features in the development. Twelve houses required storage for four bikes (rather than the standard of three), without increasing locker depth, as they were required to sit alongside the garden path. We adapted the design of our standard product to make a unit that was double the length, providing storage for up to six cycles for these houses. Additionally, each unit included the installation of Sold Secure Ground Anchors to achieve the security requirements.

The result

The cycle-parking solution we delivered has helped to elevate the mobility credentials of the wider scheme. Aligning with the site’s walking and cycling network, our provision of high-quality, secure cycle storage for every house has ensured residents and visitors are served by the right infrastructure, and has reinforced the broader sustainability ambitions of the neighbourhood.
Key benefits:

  • Easy access to secure cycle storage means more convenience for people choosing to cycle for work or leisure, and more confidence in storing their cycles securely
  • Parking is easily accessible to houses alongside the primary active-travel routes and delivers to the design ethos of the site’s ‘cycle first’ strategy
  • Residents have an infrastructure that feels well-considered, safe, and part of the neighbourhood fabric – supporting good quality of life.
