The challenge

Bellsure was asked to supply and install a shelter and cycle storage. This project required us to create a bespoke shelter that complied with a local Tree Preservation Order.

Project background

“The Westgate Centre is a major shopping centre in Oxford that was extensively remodelled and extended. To overcome the issue of building near a Tree Preservation Order, we created a structure that could sit on top of four concrete pockets as opposed to the traditional method of digging large foundations and setting it onto a concrete block. This solution would not disturb the tree roots and in turn provided a long-term solution for this unique requirement.”

SOLUTION

The Bellsure solution

“Using our experience and knowledge, we offered a variety of products that suited the specific elements of the brief, supplying CAD designs and .dwg files to build into the client’s BIM model, including a CAD file that specified materials along with our recommendations, panel details and security fixings.

The finished shelter is a powder coated steel frame clad with aluminium Louvre panels. We used aluminium Neatdek self-supporting flooring and a specialist Kalzip standing seam roof. We then used our Double Decker Classic cycle racks as the chosen cycle storage for this project.”

The result

Conforming to all site regulations, we erected the shelter within 5 days – the tight timeframe being due to the imminent opening of the shopping centre. Our installers worked alongside the site manager to ensure a smooth and snag-free handover – complete with an enhanced operations & maintenance manual.
